RECOMMENDED SOFTWARE
We recommend the following EPUB readers:
Newer Chicago Journals e-books may include math tagged with MathML, which is rendered correctly by current versions of the readers listed above. Older versions or other EPUB readers may not display math correctly.
E-BOOKS FOR KINDLE DEVICES
MOBI format discontinued
MOBI is an older file format used for Amazon Kindle products but does not support the most recent Kindle features, including display of MathML. Because newer Chicago Journals e-books may include MathML, we no longer produce MOBI versions.
However, Amazon has indicated that it will increase its support for EPUB files, which may at some point be readable on Kindle devices or on Kindle apps.
Downloading older MOBI files
If you are using a Kindle device that has a web browser, navigate to the Table of Contents of the issue you want to download and click the MOBI link to download and open the file.
If you are using a Kindle device that does not have a web browser, download the MOBI file to your computer and sideload it onto your device using one of the following two methods:
A. Wireless option
1. Install the Send to Kindle application on your computer (free from Amazon).
2. On your computer, download the MOBI file and save it in an easily accessible location.
3. Find the downloaded MOBI file on your computer, right-click on it, and choose the “Send to Kindle” option.
4. Choose your Kindle device and click “Send.”
5. Open the home screen on your Kindle and wait for the MOBI file to sync.
B. Transferring files via USB connection
1. On your computer, download the MOBI file and save it in an easily accessible location.
2. Connect your Kindle to your computer with a micro USB cable.
3. Find the Kindle device on your computer (typically, in “Computer” or “My Computer”).
4. Open the Kindle drive. Locate the “documents” folder in the Kindle device.
5. Locate the downloaded MOBI file from step one and drag it into the “documents” folder in the Kindle drive.
6. Right-click the Kindle device and select “Eject Kindle” to safely disconnect your Kindle from your computer.
CHICAGO E-BOOK EDITIONS
E-books of selected issues are available for individual subscribers to download and read on their desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. Some journals also allow non-subscribers to purchase the e-book edition.
Visit an issue’s online Table of Contents to see if an e-book edition is available for download or purchase. Look for the box titled “Download the e-book” on the right side of the Contents page.
