Female field crickets provide information to their young about the risk of predation from wolf spiders, even though mothers never interact with their offspring once the eggs are laid. The researchers found that offspring from predator-exposed mothers were more cautious around chemical cues (feces and silk draglines) of wolf spiders than offspring of nonexposed mothers. In addition, offspring of predator-exposed mothers survived longer in the presence of a live and hungry wolf spider.
